THE PROJECT

The NAS101 training course was an opportunity for LST, a contractor with decades of experience working on the National Airspace (NAS), to share their expertise and knowledge with NASA engineers in a half-day training session. The NAS has developed over decades and incorporates both cutting-edge and legacy technologies that serve a wide range of stakeholders from the aerospace industry to the flying public.

THE CHALLENGE

Developing content and structure of the NAS101 training course that would engage the audience to convey as much meaningful information as possible in a four-hour event.

THE SOLUTION

To create a seamless and engaging virtual experience the event used an innovative approach that combined their production experience with technological solutions.

Virtual Control Room

A video sharing service was adapted to function as a virtual control room, creating simultaneous video conference calls: a front-facing feed that the attendees would see, and a second “behind the scenes” feed for the staff and speakers.

Engaging Visuals

The event featured a variety of graphics to support the presentations, including a map of the US showing TRACONS at most major cities, a history of commercial flight timeline, and airport taxiway diagrams.

Adapting Content

KAIA organized the event by simultaneously developing the online event platform and coordinated across many departments to collect media and interview speakers. Existing photos, videos, and charts were quickly adapted to the new virtual format.

Live and Pre-Recorded Presentations

With scheduling conflicts and mixed quality of internet connection, it was decided that some speakers would present live on the event day, while others would be pre-recorded. Professional recording equipment was shipped to speakers, and they were coached on camera and lighting setup.

Ongoing Access

The video recording of the event was repackaged and made available online, providing ongoing access to the valuable information and further extending the impact of the initial investment.

How KAIA can help you

The NAS101 case study demonstrates the potential for innovation and adaptability in the face of challenges, showcasing the successful transition from an in-person to a virtual event. The solutions developed by the event organizers not only allowed for a seamless and engaging experience for the attendees, but also increased the reach and ongoing impact of the training course. The sky’s the limit for your next virtual event.
